INFECTIOUS DISEASES
SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE The bulletin of infectious diseases for the week ended yesterday shows a total of 67 cases in the Vellington health district, an increase of 14 over the previous week’s total. Scarlet fever is more prevalent, there being a total of 31 cases. Ten of these are in the Central Wellington district. There is a fair amount of diphtheria, especially in the Wanganui-Horowhenua and Wai-rarapa-East Cape districts. Details are as follow, the previous week’s figures beig given in parentheses:— Wanganui-Horowhenua: Scarlet fever, 11 (4) ; diphtheria, 5 (4) ; erysipelas, 1 (0) ; tuberculosis, 0 (1) ; pneumonia, 0 (4) ; puerperal fever, 0 (1) ; trachoma, 0 (1) ; total, 17 (15). Wairarapa-East Cape: Scarlet fever, 8 (7) ; diphtheria, '8 (3) ; enteric fever, 1 (2) ; tuberculosis, 6 (2) ; puerperal fever, 1 (1) ; tetanus, 1 (0) ; pneumonia, 0 (1); erysipelas, 0 (1); total, 27 (17). Central'Wellington: Scarlet fever, 10 (13) ; diphtheria, 3 (1) ; tuberculosis, 2 (4) ; pneumonia, 2 (0) ; puerperal fever, 1 (0) ; ophthalmia neon, 1 (0) ; erysipelas, 0 (2); total, 19 (20). Nelson-Marlborough: Scarlet fever, 2 '(0) ; tuberculosis, 1 (1) ; puerperal fever, 1 (0); total, 4 (1). Grand total, 67 (53).
