An object of research that is engaging the attention of forestry experts at tho present time is the evolution of a set type of pinus insignis (says the Christchurch “Sun”). At present, tho pinus, as milled from the plantations, is showing at least three types of timber, two of which are of the greatest value, and the third is almost useless. Tho State Forest Service is experimenting with a view to producing a trPO of tree which will give a uniform quality of timber. As evidence of the successful commercial lines on which the farm attached to the Waipiata Sanatorium is run, last year’s profit from the farm yas X 991 (states an exchange). As an indication that the institution is not being exploited for the benefit of the farm, tho cost, per occupied lied, per annum, last year touched JCI39. Even in severe winters it is stated true glaciers on Mount Egmont are unusual, but at the present time a glacier of considerable extent is to be seen where the track from Dawson Falls to North Egmont crosses the Manganui Gorge (reports an exchange). Such a. condition, according to experienced alpinists, has seldom been seen in this vicinity.
