BRASS BANDS’ CARNIVAL

QUICKSTEP COMPETITION. The Wellington District Bands’ Association will hold a musical carnival, in conjunction with which a quickstep competition is also to be conducted, on October 7, 8 and 9. The quickstep event wiH be held at Athletic Park on October 8, at 2.30 p.m. There will be twelve bands competing, including three from Hutt Valley. Silver cups, subscribed for by citizens, will be awarded as prizes, and it is estimated that fully 350 bandsmen will be on parade. Mr. G. Buckley, conductor of the New Zealand champion band, will officiate as musical adjudicator. The events set out for the week-end are as follow: —Friday night, boys’ solo competition (18 and under), any instrument, own choice, for tho P. L. Brady gold medal, and two others; Lyall Bay School’s champion choir, and clever juvenile artists Prom the recent competitions. Saturday afternoon, quickstep competition at Athletic Park; own choice of march, under rules of the North Island Brass Bands’ Association. Saturday night. Town Hall, grand novelty concert with well-known Wellington artists, massed band items, presentation of prizes. Sunday, massed band route marching from four main points to Basin Reserve, where massed band programme will be given. Special concert at night at His Majesty’s Theatre by the Tramways Band.
