WHEAT CROP SAVED

Melbourne, October 2.

Heavy rain is falling in the greater part of the State, saving the wheat crop. The Superintendent of Agriculture states that had -the rain been delayed three weeks longer over ten million bushels of wheat, valued at 2| millions sterling, would have been lost. The rain is causing floods in some districts. The town of Traralgon, In Gippsland, is now threatened, with a most serious flood. All low-lying, land is submerged, and numbers of residents are marooned. The Latrobe River has broken its banks, and a serious extension of the floods is feared There have been heavy losses of stock. HEAVY RAIN IN NEW SOUTH WALES Sydney, October 2. Heavy rain is still falling in many parts of the State. Numerous railway washaways are reported.
