EXTRA MOTOR TAX

BILL TO GO FORWARD A meeting of the City and Suburban Highways Board was held last night to consider the position following the decision of the Wellington Automobile Club as-to its attitude towards the proposed amending Bill. The meeting was held in committee, and at the close the Mayor stated that the Board would go before the Local Bills Committee to present its case. It is understood that the attitude of the automobile club executive has not changed. Air. F. Manton, the chairman of that body, told a Dominion representative last night that in the poll of members of the club taken upon the proposal to impose the extra 10s. tax, only those who were payers of Hutt Road fees were allowed to vote., and not those members resident outside' the aiea. This meant that voting papers were only sent to about 2000 and not the full membership of 3000.
