PROBATION EXTENDED

MOTOR SALESMAN WHO DID NOT REPORT.

John Francis Holcomb, a motor-sales-man, aged 27, appeared before Mr. E. Page, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday charged with a breach of his probationary license.

Chief-Detective Ward stated that accused, who had been convicted and placed on probation for issuing valueless cheques, had not reported to the probation officer. Holcomb: I was sent to prison for two 9 months for a breach of probation, Your Worship, and when I came out of gaol I thought I need not report, as I had served my sentence for it.

Mr. T. P. Mills, the probation officer, said he had received instructions from .Auckland to the effect that Holcomb had been told by the probation officer he was still on probation, and would have to report regularly. Mr. E. Page, S.M.: Accused may not, have known that he still had to report after he had been imprisoned for a breach of his probation, although he was still on it. Under the circumstances I will convict him and extend his term of probation for a further six months.
