DEATH OF MR. B. F. DYSON
THE CORONER'S VERDICT Dominion Special. Service. Christchurch, September 13. A verdict that the death of Burrows Frank Dyson, district manager, of J. J. Niven and Co., Ltd., was due to a fracture of the-skull and lacerations of the brain due to being struck by flying metal caused through the bursting of an oil cylinder iftl by compressed air pressure, and arising out of experiments made, by deceased, was returned to-day bv the Coroner (Mr. H. P. Lawry). The accident occured on September 2 at Niven’s Foundry in Colombo Street. Dyson was dead when he was taken to the hospital immediately after the explosion. Evidence was given that Dyson ana three others were standing in front of an oil burner which had just been lit for testing purposes. Adjustments were being made to the flame when the explosion occurred. It was stated that Dyson was evidently experimenting with the cylinder, by which he was delivering the oil by pressure instead of gravity, and that apparently the explosion was caused bv air pressure in the cylinder. The end of the cylinder was found 30 feet awav, and it was considered that probably Dyson was struck by this.
