■ POLICE AND CIVIL CASES Mr. E. Page. S.M., dealt with police cases in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. For a second offence of drunkenness Beatrice Higgins, a domestic, aged 35, who had been in gaol for a week recovering from the effects of liquor, was convicted and discharged. James William bpicer, an agent, aged 40, was fined 10s., in default forty-eight liours’ imprisonment, for a like offence. A remand until September 20 was granted in the case of William Alexander Morris, aged 52, who was charged with assaulting Helen Morris. Accused was granted bail in his own surety of £2O. Edward Johnson, a seaman, aged 33, and Sidney Adams, a ship's cook, aged 34, were remanded until September 21 on a charge of breaking and entering the shop oj Richard Sadler, at 80 Vivian Street, and stealing tobacco and other goods to the tptal value of £7O. Both accused (for whom Mr. E. Leicester appeared) were granted bail in the sum. of £3OO each, .with one surety of a like amount. CIVIL BUSINESS
