BRITISH WAR OFFICE
ORGANISATION CHANGES DUE TO MECHANISED TRANSPORT (Rec. September 12, 7 p.m.) London, September 11. A War Office memorandum declares that the recent developments in military science, particularly the continuous extension of mechanised transport, have necessitated modification of the organisation, which has been substantially changed since 1904. It has been decided to concentrate under a single member of the Army Council the study of the technical problems relating to military stores and vehicles, ensuring more scientific grouping and other duties. Consequently the Master-General of Ordnance will be responsible for research experiments, with the design of track, semi-track, and other vehicles, and a majority of the stores, except Army Service Corps’ vehicles. The Quartermaster-General takes over fortifications and works. Ihe accommodation of troops also involves the creation of a fourth principal officer, a deputy-master of ordnance, attached to general headquarters in wartime.—Sydney “Sun” Caule. —
