DEEP-SEA FISHING
BAY Or ISLANDS CAAIP VISITED. Colonel G. F. C. Campbell, of Wellington. accompanied by liis son, Captain Campbell, recently paid a visit to the Urupukapuka fishing camp at the Bay of Islands. The camp is situated on an island in one of the bays, comprising about 500 acres, and is eight miles from the loivn of Russell. The Zane Grey Sporting Club lias recently erected a very comfortable accommodation bouse on the island, and every attention is paid (o visitors. A wharf has also been built, and motor, launches nly as required between Russell ami the camp. The visitors found that the deep sen fishing in (he north this season had not so far come up to expectations. Big fish were, however, being caught occasionally, ami it was expected that ultimately there would be a good season nt Cape Brett, in the vicinity of which the best sport was generally obtained. Colonel Campbell motored from Wellington to Kaitaia. practically as fat north as motors can go. and said he had been much impressed with the fcilility of the soil in the northern Auckland district, which should eventually carry a largo population.
