LOWER HUTT CIVIC ASSOCIATION
The Lower Hutt Civic Association held its first meeting after the holidays’ adjournment in the Central School. The president. Mr. Strong, occupied the chair, and there was a good attendance of members. " - The borough road-paving work was again discussed. The unsatisfactory state of Victoria Street, although topdressed, was commented on. It was decided to draw the council’s attention to the necessity of widening this street, it being part of the Hutt-Petone arterial thoroughfare, and request that an eastern footpath be constructed. The neglect of the road-paving staff in leaving tar-barrels, sand, and general assortments on the roads-after completion of the work was remarked upon. Bv invitation Councillor Meldrum -ave an address on the borough’s finance, and received an appreciative vote of thanks. , , , . .i,„ Mr Dyke was congratulated, on the success of his two years’ efforts with the council in having a stable nuisance on an adjacent property discontinued. , ... , The Council’s atention is to be drawn to the practice of surface-burying of stable refuse in the borough, and the council is also to be asked that the sanitary by-laws be strictly enforced as a prevention to epidemics. . It was decided that the selection of candidates for election to the council be dealt with at the next meeting.
