AMATEUR ATHLETICS

PRO VINCI A L CHA MPIONSHIPS. Interest in amateur athletics is now till centred in the provincial championships, which will be held at Athletic Park on Saturday afternoon, January 29. Some very strong teams will take the field for the various chibs, particularly the Wellington Club and the Masterton Club, and the contest for the McVilly Shield is expected to be close and interesting. The Wellington district covers a very large area, comprising, as it does, Hawke's Bar, Manawatu, Wairarapa, as well as Wellington City, mid the cream of the talent from the Whole of this district will be competing next Saturday. R. A. Rose will be there from Mastertor, and the public will no doubt welcome the opportunity of seeing him again. Amongst, the cyclists great interest is being manifested in the meeting between Oakley, of Mastcrton, and b'lett and Robinson, of Wellington. Entries close on Monday.
