EDITORIAL STAFF STRIKES

OF GLASGOW SOCIALIST NEWSPAPER London, December 20. The editorial staff of the ‘‘Glasgow Evening Standard,” a Socialist paper owned‘bv Mr. J. Wheatley, M P., struck, alleging victimisation and a breach of trades union principles. The editor asserts that reporters entitled to £3 10s. received £1 17s. 6d. a week up to November 30, when they secured an increase of 80 per cent, to union rates. One of the most highly-paid men was dismissed, and a bov brought in to replace him. The firm denies the allegations. Journalists are not supporting the strike.—Sydney “Sun” Cable.
