The Minister of Education (Hon. R. A. Wright) returned from Auckland yesterday. The Minister of Public Works (Hon. K. S. Williams) left for the north by the daylight Limited yesterday. The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice and Defence (Hon. F. J. Rolles ton) returned yesterday from the south. Mr. J. Hislop (Under-Secretary for Internal Affairs), who is completing detailed arrangements in connection with the forthcoming visit of the Duke and Duchess of York, arrived in Auckland yesterday morning. He will leave today for Rotorua to arrange for accommodation for the Royal visitors and suite at the Grand Hotel.—Special correspondent. Mr. A. T. Davies, assistant accountant and cashier for the Harbour Board, who has been granted six months’ leave prior to his retirement on superannuation after over 40 years’ service with the board, was the recipient of presentations yesterday afternoon from his colleagues. On behalf of the executive officers and accountants’ staff, Mr. J. Marchbanks, general manager, handed Mr. Davies, a gold watch suitably inlscribed. Captain A. V. H. Munro, on behalf of tlie traffic manager’s department (the “outside” staff) presented Mr. Davies with an oak secretaire. Congratulatory speeches were made, and were responded to by Mr. ■ Davies, who was enthusiastically cheered. Mr. R. Don has been appointed choirmaster to the Baptist Church, Vivian Street, of which Mr. Charles Collins is the honorary organist. The death has occurred in Wanganui of Mr. W. J. Mahoney, who was for nianv rears a member of the Post and Telegraph Department, and latterly district manager of the Australian Provincial Assurance Company (states a Press Association message). He was well-known in swimming and rowing circles.
