LINCOLN COLLEGE
WHAT WILL ITS FUTURE BE?. Dominion Special. Christchurch, December 17. Strong opinions were expressed by Mr. H. A. Knight, chairman of the Board of Governors of Canterbury Agricultural College, at a luncheon tendered to visiting farmers at the College yesterday, that the institution should not be allowed to become State managed. Mr. Knight was speaking of the future of the College, in view of the possible establishment of an agricultural college in the North Island. He said that so long as there was no undue interference with the management of the College he would favour it being used as a Dominion agricultural college, and was willing that any working arrangement should be entered into, but he urged that Government control should be resisted. Some diversity of opinion among the Board of Governors was evident, as at a later stage Mr. ,J. Studholme said that there was a real danger, if the policy outlined by the chairman was followed, of the' College becoming a mere farm school and losing the status it lias to-day in regard to the granting of degrees.
