SCHOOL DISCIPLINE
INTER-COLLEGE CONTEST CANCELLED Dominion Special. Wanganui, December 11. A bombshell has fallen in the ranks of inter-college rowing. The Wanganui Collegiate School has had its crew in hard training for weeks past in view of meeting Christ’s College representatives. The boat is already packed, and it is understood has been sent forward for the race, which was set down for Wednesday next on the Avon. The race will not take place. Everybody expected that the collegiate crew would leave Wanganui this morning, and members of the crew were looking forward enthusiastically to meeting their timehonoured rivals. Speaking to a reporter late yesterday afternoon, members of the crew expressed themselves as feeling very fit- and confident. The Rev. C. F. Pierce, headmaster of the college, was interviewed this morning, when he confirmed the rumour. Asked for further information on the matter, Mr. Pierce declined to make a statement for. publication beyond saying that it was a matter of school discipline, and the race would be cancelled for this year. The headmaster’s decision will, ■no doubt, cause disappointment not only among the members of the collegiate crew but also in' the Christ’s College crew, and to those interested in rowing generally.
