ENGINEERS’ AWARD
WAGE INCREASE GRANTED. The award of the Arbitration Court in connection with the recently heard case of the Dominion engineers was made available on Saturday. Outside the dirty work, preference, and exemption clauses, the new award represents an agreement of tho partie-. The rate fixed is 2s. 3d. per hour, which represents an increase of Id. per hour over the previous award, 'rhe term of the award is 18 months, and the new wages date from November 5. A memorandum by the Judge states that the Court settled the clauses relating to dirty work, preference, and exemptions. It is further added that, in regard to dirty work on tramcars, the question was raised in Christchurch as to the manner in which the question, whether any particular work was or was not dirty, was to be settled, and the parties were recommended to confer respecting the proportion of the .scheduled .jobs to be considered dirty. The Court reserved power to amend the clause in question on the application of any party.
