Dannevirke bowlers—three rinks—played at Woodville on Wednesday for the Ruahine Pennant, and were lucky enough to return with the pennant flying- Local representatives were: Messrs. C. Weavers, W. Cluck, A. Greenwood, W. T Gilbert (s.) ; J. B Register, W. L. Roberts, P. O. Clark, G. Rankin (s.); A. Webber, J. P. Englebretsen, J. Carston, J S. Williams (s.j; and they met in the competition rinks from Eketahuna, Woodville, ana Pahiatua. On Wednesday next Dannevirke will be called on to defend the Oxley Cup against a challenge from Woodville.

Electricians are busily engaged on the work of installing the automatic system in Dannevirke telephone exchange, and it is expected that the new system will be ready' for switching over by the end of March.

A garden party in aid of St. John’s Church rebuilding fund, held at Mrs. W. H. Dawson’s, yesterday, proved a great success, although the afternoon was miserably cold and wet. Competitions were won by Mesdames A. B. Knight, V. F B. Rogers, S. Macfarlane, F. R. Cowper, and W. Olliver. A kindiv entertainment party visiting Pukeora Sanatorium last night comprised : Misses Pearce, Hosking, and E. Scrymgeour, Messrs. W. Payne, W. Edge, L. Bell, and A. Anderson, and Mrs. W. Edge The time taken by Griffiths, the winner in the 15-mile bicycle road race m the Boomerang Cup competition _ yesterday was 47min. 30sec. The winner of Mr. H. Selwyn Dawe’s trophy for fastest time l was A. J. Rossiter, the scratch man. His time for the first ten miles was Simin. 44sec., |sec. less than the previous record for that distance; his’time for the race was 47min. ssec.

F, A. Dalzell, a well-known runner and member of the Dannevirke Post Office telephone staff, has been transferred to Woodville, where he will commence duty on Monday.
