WHAT IS THE TRUTH?

ABOUT THE SLAUGHTERMEN'S STRIKE? Sir,—l read in your valuable columns the resolution of sympathy with the freezing workers passed by the Tramwaynien/s Union.. The terms of it made me wonder if these men know the facts of the case, or if we farmers do not know the truth either. I was present a few weeks ago at a meeting held by Mr. Gordon Elliott, M.P. Tie stated that at the Feilding freezing works last year the slaughtermen worked 28 weeks, two weeks of which they went slow, the average earning being £9 18s. per week. This statement was published in the local paper; it was not challenged at the meeting or since in the Press.

May I ask, Do the tramwaymen in Wellington earn such big money and buy their meat so cheaply that it appears to them that the slaughtermen are in need of sympathy?—
