LEVEL CROSSING ACCIDENT

I TRAIN CRASHES INTO CAR OCCUPANTS’ MIRACULOUS ESCAPE Dominion Special. Auckland, December 2. The “Herald’s” Te Arolia correspondent states that a serious accident occurred this morning at the Herriesville railway crossing, Te Arolia. James Bowring, of Te Arolia West, was conveying five members of the Manawaru Bay Scouts to Paeroa, where they were to take parr in an ambulance competition at a show. He was driving a new seven-seater car along Stanley Road and failed to observe the le Aroha-Frankton train until too close to pull up. The car was struck broadside on, and carried by the. engine for a distance of 50 vards. It is a miracle how any of the occupants escaped death as the whole side of the car was smashed in. Mr Bowring was jammed between the seaf and the steering wheel, and received cuts and bruises to the bead, and severe injuries to the back, the full extent of which are not yet known Ivo Foster had his arm broken at the elbow joint. Mr. Bowring’s son had his face and head badly cut and bruised. A lad named Johnsen bad his ribs and chest severely bruised. The other two boys were not injured. All the sufferers were rement and are progressing satisfactorily inent and the progressing satisfactorily athough all are suffering severely from shock. This is the worst accident of its kind that lias happened there.
