POLICE AND CIVIL CASES Mr. E; Page, S.M., dealt with the police cases in the Magistrates Cuuit yesterday. . . . For being found m charge of a motoicvcle while in an intoxicated condition in Kent Terrace on Monday afternoon, Charles Goulstoue, a labourer (aged 3a), was fined ®L‘5 and had his driver s license suspended for twelve months. Five weeks were allowed in which to pay the fine. .... , Robert William Neilson (aged o 3) was fined £2, in default seven days imprisonment with hard labour, on the charge of using obscene, language in Courtenay Place. He was fined 10s„ in default 48 hours’ imprisonment, tor a second offence of drunkenness. George Armitage, alias George McLaine, a labourer (aged 32), who admitted theft by failing to account tor £9, received on terms requiring him to account for it to Henry Crowhurst at Raurimu, was sentenced to three months imprisonment with hard labour. Aho sentence is to be served at Ihe expiration of. six months’ imprisonment accused is now undergoing for theft. James Benjamin Southwood, a labourer (aged 30), who pleaded guilty to the charge of being found by night without lawful excuse, but in circumstances not disclosing the intent of any other crime, in a building in Wakefield Street, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon within twelve months. Alfred Janies Luxon, alias A. J. Todd, a labourer (aged 44), was remanded to appear at Palmerston North on October 29 on the charge of obtaining £l, with intent to. defraud, from William Henry Hall, manager of Dalgety and Co., Palmerston North, by falsely pretending that he was employed by the Oamaru branch of that firm.
