The Department of Agriculture has forecasted the largest cotton crop, in the history of America, 17,454,000 bales, causing additional consternation in cotton circles. The report is expected to be followed by renewed appeals for speedy Southern aid. It also adds tremendous difficulties to the iask of rehabilitating Southern finances. Despite the estimate, the New York market apparently discounted the report in advance, but acted curiously and maintained an even level at the reopening, then dropped 25 to 32 points, and later rallied 12 to 16 points from earlv low levels.
