SWIMMING
AUSTRALIAN LADIES’ VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND.
Sydney, October 16. Regarding a cable to Sydney that the Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Swimming Association objects to the visit of the Australian lady swimmers, Miss Claire Couldwell and Ettie Robertson, because they are not among the first class, it is pointed out that both are champions. Miss Couldwell holds the distance titles and Miss Robertson is sprint and diving champion. Dominion Special.
Dunedin, October 15. Disapproval of th* tours of lady swimmers was expressed-by the chairman (Mr. H. H. Henderson) at last night’s meeting of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, when the question of the visit of the Australian champions, was being considered, Mr. Henderson’s objections being on the ground that women swimmers did not draw the public After some discussion it was decided to agree to the appearance of the Australian ladies in Dunedin on Wednesday, January 12, for which £25 has to be guaranteed.
