NO ALTERATION IN INCOME TAX Melbourne, October 14. In the Legislative Assembly, delivering bis Budget speech, the State. Treasurer, Sir Alexander Peacock, said that there would be no alteration in the rates of income tax. The new taxation on betting, which is estimated to increase the revenue by £417,000, is to take the form of a tax of 1} per cent, on the turnover of each bookmaker The present stamp duties on betting tickets and licenses or permits will be abolished, but a license fee of £1 wilt be charged on each bookmaker’s certificate. The restoration of stamp duties on bills of exchange and promissory notes to rates ruling before the war was anther feature of the speech.
