APPEAL TO OWNERS AND MINERS TO THINK OF COMMUNITY’S SUFFERING (Rec. October 14, 7.35 p.m.) London, October 13. "Honour is satisfied on both sides,” Said Sir William Joynson-Hicks in appealing to the owners and miners to cease fighting. Economic facts, he said, not greed on • either side, had started the struggle. It was now time that both sides appreciated the community’s suffering.—Sydney “Sun” Cable. CONFLICT WITH POLICE (Rec. October 15, 1.25 a.m.) London, October 14. Two thousand idle miners came in conflict with the police at Pemberton, Lancashire, where 400 men resumed ■work on October 11. The crowd refused to disperse, and the police charged, using their batons. Several were injured and many arrested.—Sydney "Sun” Cable.
