TRAINING APPRENTICES FOR THE RAILWAYS
The whole question of instruction to apprentices employed by the Railway Department has been thoroughly discussed in Wellington this week, when a conference of the four apprentice instructors from the main railway workshops, under the direction of Mr. T. li. Spidey, workshops superintendent, was held. It is expected that as a result of tlie conference a new form of indenture is likely to be developed which will require the regular attendance of apprentices at technical schools. The accompanying photographs are those of the superintendent, and the four instructors who attendee! the conference.

A great iron and steel trust agreement, regulating the annual output in Germany, France, Belgium, and Luxembourg, has been signed in Brussels. British industrialists are not participating in the agreement, which is hailed in Berlin as the biggest trade deal since pre-war •times.
