ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL
WELLINGTON COMMITTEE MEETING. Mr. W. Auld presided at the weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the Wellington Football Association last night. The secretary of the Petone Club wrote stating that he had been instructed by his committee to protest strongly against the attitude of the Bxtures committee in playing Petone seniors against Hutt in the Victory Cup tie Saturday next, and he asked for the reason why Petone and Hutt had to play three rounds and Swifts got into the final with playing one round only. The members of tke Petone senior team thought that “there must be some juggling going on to try to knock them out of the championship.”—The secretary was instructedto reply strongly objecting to the allegation of “juggling.” The New Zealand Association advised that Guest had been granted permission to play under the jurisdiction of Wellington, and stated, in regard to the request that the council give a ruling as to which association Guest was registered for, that the matter would be brought up at its next meeting. The council also asked that the Thistle Club forward an explanation of its action in playing Wallace against Hospital on Saturday, September 4, when it wae known that he had not received permission to play from the New Zealand Football Association. —The latter matter was referred to the club concerned. The Old Boys’ Club secretary wrote in reference to the protest of the Island Bav Club against W. Coronno, a member of the second division B team, stating the matches in which Coronno had played.—lt decided that the protest be dismissed, . A notice of motion for the annual general meeting was forwarded from the Old Boys’ Club, as follows: “That for the further progress and advancement of Association football in Wellington, the time has now arrived when the Wellington Football Asspciation should employ a paid secretary, and that, such position be advertised, and applications invited to fill it.” J ' Final arrangements were made tor tne game wit hthe Technical College team from Auckland on Saturday week.
Some people refuse to be overawed by the majesty of the law. A case in point cropped up in the Court (savs the “Marlborough Express”). ThePolice Court had just adjourned and a stern constable was giving some friendly advice to a freshly convicted and discharged inebriate. “Now, look here,” said the man in blue seriously. “Your best plan is to leave the drink alone. If vou get drunk agaih we’ll put yon in Picton for a week.” “Quite right, too!” was the amiable, though surprising reply.
