Payton took the lead almost immediately, and maintained it until the brick kiln was reached, when he was overtaken and left by Silver, who finished with fastest time. (40min. 26sec.). Boltons lan a preat race, and fln ; shcd second about 50yds. behind Silver, with a fine dash, which enabled him to pass R. J. Trail and Payton, who locked certain for second and third place respectively. R. J. Trail, a flrsryear miner, apa in proved his worth bv finishing stronalv in third place, and repisterinp excellent time for a younr runner.
