VICE-REGAL. Their Excellencies the Governor-Gen-eral and Lady Alice Fergusson will hold an investiture and reception at Government House to-night. To-morrow, the Governor-General will visit the new Technical College, Mount Cook, for the purpose of unveiling a tablet erected to the memory of members of the college who fell in the Great War, and will inspect the Cadet company of the. college. Their Excellencies will leave for Christchurch on Monday, August 9, to be present at the Grand National race meeting. Sir George Eliott left for the North bv the Limited express on Friday evening. The Hon. G. Fowlds left for the North last Friday evening by the Limited express. Mr. Gillies, assistant superintendent engineer of the Union Steam Ship Company, arrived from the south by the Mararoa on Saturday morning. Dr. and Mrs. McLaglan arrived on Saturday morning from the south. Mr. H. W. Frost, of Auckland, is visiting Wellington for a few days. The death took place at an early hour at Dargaville on Saturday morning of Mr. Fred F. Day, who was the first Mavor of Dargaville (states a Press Association message). Born in America in 1852, he landed at Auckland with his parents in 1357. He filled responsible positions in various parts of Auckland Province, and went to Dargaville in 1894, where he entered into business as a general storekeeper. He retired about two rears ago. The late Mr. Day was elected Mavor of Dargaville in 1999, and also held many other public positions. His wife died seven years ago. He is survived by two daughters ami a son. also by a brother and foul sisters. Mr. W. R. Ho.g.gan, Paramount General Sales Manager, who presided _at the recent Paramount Convention held in Wellington, will leave by the Limited to day' for ’ Auckland. Mr. Reg. P Davison. New Zealand Paramount Publicity Manager, will accompany Mr. Hoggan.
