FORGED BANK NOTES

ORDERS SENT TO GERMAN PRINTERS. (Rec. July 11, 5.5 p.m.) Berlin, July 10. Apparently some residents of Britiisli overseas territories are under the impression that reputable German printing firms are prepared to forge for them unlimited quantities of bank notes. Several such firms have received letters from Africa, India and Australia, enclosing bank notes with a request that they be copied exactly. For example', a letter from British West Africa enclosed a West African £1 note and ordered that a large supply of similar notes be sent to Africa concealed in concertinas. The firms concerned handed the letters to the forgery department of the Reichsbank, which informed the British authorities. The British Embassy has sent each firm a reward of £so.— Renter.
