The member for Hutt (Air. T. JI. Wilford) will not sit in Parliament during the present session. The Leader of the Nationalist Party (Mr. G. W. Forbes) yesterday asked that Mi Wilford be granted leave of absence for the remainder of the session, on account of his absence from the Dominion. Leave was granted. Levin is not yet free of sneak thieves as a local car-owner found to his chagrin the other evening (says the Levin "Chronicle”). Leaving liis car outside the house for a few minutes he wont indoors to collect his family, and on their return was surprised to find that one of Hie auxiliary glass wind-screens had been removed. Had the owner not returned when ho did possibly the other accessories would also have disappeared. Saleyard humour is often very pungent and amusing, and the conduct of vendors and buyers, particularly if they have been enjoying a festive morning, is generally laughable (says the Wanganui "Chronicle”). Thus at a recent sale a vendor was asked if his cow was particular about fodder. "Not a bit,” he said, "she’d feed on the end of a clothes line.” "And she looks as though she has, too," came the prompt rejoinder.
