At a conference of delegates from most of tho local bodies in Canterbury, it was decided tl-at they were against the handing over of all the highways to the Highways Board, and were of opinion Vat tho subsidy on construction should definitely bo fixed at «£2 for <£l, the Main Highways Board to have discretionary power to increase the subsidy when permanent materials were used.
