BANK OFFICERS MEET

Mil. ROBERT MOFFAT HONOURED. Members of the staff and of the clienotalo of the Te Aro brunch of the National Bank of New Zealand met last evening to tender a complimentary dinner to Mr. Robert Moffat, who, until recently, has filled the position of manager of this institution, a position which he has relinquished on account of his promotion to an inspectorate in the general manager’s department. The gathering was presided over by the Minister of Education (Hon. R. A. Wright), while Mr. T. Forsyth, M.P., filled the position of vice-chairman. In proposing the toast of the guest of the evening, Mr. 'Wright remarked that Mr. Moffat was one of those gentlemen who had succeeded in New Zealand b.y their merit, honesty, and diligence. Twenty-seven years ago Mr. Molfat joined the National Bank in Milton. and in 1920 he was appointed to the managership of the Milton branch two. years later lieing promoted to the position he had just relinquished. By his most recent promotion he was appointed to the branch inspectorship. Messrs. L. Dwan. T. Forsyth, Hope Gibbons, and W. J. Gaudin, also spoke in support of the toast. On behalf of Mr. Moffat’s fricnos. Mr. Wright presented him with a cabinet gramophone, a travelling-bag, and a rug. In replying to the toast, Mr. Moffat •aid that he appreciated th® spirit

which had prompted the kind remarks of his friends, which ho regarded as largely an expression of good-will towards tho institution to which he belonged. Ho assured his friends that ho would continue to take an interest in them ajl, and that he would not forget their kindness. He felt honoured to seo amongst those present the general manager of the National Bank (Mr. G. W. Mclntosh), and he had pleasure in introducing his successor, Mr. A. T. Kobbell, to the gathering. Musical numbers, which were greatly appreciated, were contributed during the evening.
