The recent storm in Auckland was responsible for the death of at least one of the inmates of the Zoological Gardens (savs the “New Zea'aud Herald”). By some means a male ostrich got into the flooded ; creek running through life Zoo grounds, and was found drowned. Negotiations have been in hand for some time for the purchase of another half-dozen of these birds, and it is expected they will be delivered shortly. They are being secured from a private breeder in the Thames Valley, who has undertaken to supply three males and three females. Innfecognition of his long and valuable services to the Wellington Winter Show Association, the chairman, Air. G. Alitchell, was, at last night’s meeting of the executive, elected an honorary life member of the association.
