ANNIVERSARY OF VIMY RIDGE

CANADIAN OFFICERS’ GIFTS TO LORD AND LADY BYNG. (Rec. April 11, 5.5 p.m.) Ottawa, April 9. Two hundred officers of the Canadian Forces who served under General Byng in the Great War gave tangible expressions of affection for their former leader, the Governor-General of Canada, and commander of the Canadians overseas in 1916-17, ami Lady Byng of Vimy, at a dinner at Government House to-night, in the form of a seven-passen-ger 75-liorse-power Canadian-made limousine car to Lord Byng, and an oil portrait of His Excellency to Lady Byng. The presentation was made on behalf of the officers by Sir Arthur Currie, president of the McGill University, Montreal, who succeeded Lord Byng as commander of the corps. Ibe dinner was one of the most memorable functions ever held nt Government House.It was the ninth anniversary of the capture of Vimy Ridge by the Canad-ians.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
