At the civic send-off yesterday, Mr. J. McHolm told a story about Randolph Rose at the Waitotara sports. The Maoris had been specially demonstrative in Rose’s favour, and made the trophy in the race he was supposed to win worth £8 10s., instead of £2. As Rose came sailing up the straight a Maori woman of generous proportions ran into the middle of the track, opened her arms wide, and called out, “Come on, my beautiful Rose!”
