TEST CRICKET

LEADING AUSTRALIAN BATSMEN

BARDSLEY'S VIEWS

Bi Telegraph—Pres“ Association Copybight. London, April 8. Warren Bardslcy, in his third article, disagrees with DI. W. Tate’s view that W. H. Ponsford is unlikely to succeed on English wickets. His faults, says Bardslcy, are merely those of inexperience, which England’s slower wickets will provide him witli an opportunity of correcting. There is one doubt, however, and that is as to how lie will accommodate himself to a swinging ball, which is a trial to all young batsmen on their first visit. All the same, Bardslcv is confident that he will return a greater batsman than ever. \V • DI. Woodfull now is the class of batsman, on either good or bad wickets, to go out to the bowling, and the Englishmen may find him the hardest to get out. A.'Richardson can punch the ball with ferocity like G. J. Bonnor (New South Wales) and 11. 11. Massie (Australia) , but when required he can sit on the splice, while his good length spin bowling will be most valuable in England.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.

AUSTRALIANS AT NAPLES

London, April 8. C. Kelleway, cabling to the “Daily Express” from Naples, after describing the voyage, adds: “Enthusiasts met the train on the trans-Continental route, where speeches were made. Ine trend of these showed that few speakers thoughj it was Australia s strongest side, but, as it was, the Australians stood behind them to win or lose. Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
