CHINESE CIVIL WAR IMPORTANT STAGE REACHED By Telegraph —Press Association. Copyright. Peking, March 28. The civil war has reached an important stage. The Mukden Generals Li Cliing-lin and Chang Tsong-chang, who only loosely acknowledge Chang Tsolin’s authority, having recaptured Tientsin from Kuo Min-chun, are now advancing along the railway to Peking, while Chang Tso-lin’s cavalry are advancing on Peking from the east, and Wu Pei-fu, having completely cleared the Honan Province of Kuo Min-chun forces, is advancing on the capital along the Peking-Hankow railway. Meanwhile, Wu Pei-fu’s rear is threatened owing to a Red coup d'etat recently at Changsha Hankow reports that troops from Changsha are moving against Yochow on the Hunan-Hupeh border, and that this is regarded at Wu Pei-fu’s headquarters as the preliminary to a general Red expedition against Hankow.—Reuter.
TO SETTLE BOYCOTT NEGOTIATIONS POSSIBLE Hong-Kong, March 28. The Governor, addressing the Chamber of Commerce, announced that the' Canton Govern’ment was now prepared to appoint three members to negotiate with three Hong-Kong officials for the settlement of the boycott. The Governor said that he agreed with the proposal and hoped that the negotiations would lead to an honourable and lasting settlement. “It seems sane com. mon sense,” he said, "the Cantonese people are at last beating down Communism and re-establishing law and order.” He regarded the outlook as more hopeful than at anv time since June.— Sydney “Sun” Cable.
