HALF OF FACE BLOWN AWAY

By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, March 27. Mavis Mace, aged about 19, had half her face blown away by the • explosion of a gun, which, it is understood, she was cleaning. Miss Mace was alone in the house. A neighbour, hearing a scream, rushed in and caught Miss Mace as she fell. Blood was streaming from her face. The bullet had entered the left nostril below the nose and shattered the right cheek bone. The girl is now in hospital in a serious condition. Her mother states that her daughter was a bright, jolly girl. The accident is an absolute mystery, as far as she knew the daughter had nothing to worry about. Auckland, March 27. To-day Miss Mace’s condition showed an improvement.
