WELLINGTON CRICKET TEAM

MISBEHAVIOUR DENIED CAPTAIN REPORTS The allegations of misbehaviour ad- ! vanced against members of the Wellington cricket team, which played against Otago at Dunedin recently in a Plunket Shield match, were the subject of a report from Mr. W. S. Brice, the captain of the. team, at last night’s meeting of the management committee of the Wellington Cricket Association. In Mr. Brice’s opinion the behaviour of the team was excellent. He thought it even better than ever before. He was surprised, seeing the members of the team were personally known to the committee, that he should be asked to make a report on the behaviour of the team. There certainly was an incident on the field, he said, when a misunderstanding between two players. going for (he same catch resulted in the catch being missed, but to describe that as a case of misbehaviour was to him childish. Sir. R. Darroch’s motion that the report be adopted was carried by four votes to two. after a brief discussion, in which Mr. B. L. Salmon said he did not think they ought to take notice of all that appeared in the Press, but when, as he knew, one player had apologised to another, the question resolved itself into one of whether the report was correct or not.

Mr. Erice: Well the report is correct so far as I know of what happened.

M. Salmon: It must not be thorfght that I am reflecting on Mr. Brice. In reply to a question from Mr. W. R. Bock as to how the reports got into the Press (nothing having ever been issued from the association), Mr. Brice said he had never been approached by any pressmen, or anyone else in connection with the allegations. nor had he heard anything about the fact that two players, or more, had made apologies in any shape or form.
