BIG NITRATE SCHEME
SCREENING OF PROPOSED SITE. There was a large attendance at the Artcraft Theatre yesterday afternoon to witness a private screening of the falls, rivers, and streams in the Fiord Country, which are concerned in the Lake Manapouri 300,000 horse-power hydroelectric scheme, by which it is proposed to extract nitrogen from the air for the manufacture of nitrates. Details of the project appeared in Thi.C Dominion recently. The scenery of the fiord region was well reproduced. Amongst the views was one of the arrival of the Tutanekai in Doubtful Sound, with the Governor-General (Sir Charles Fergusson) and Lady Alice Fergusson on board. Fergusson Island and the Lady Alice Falls, which have been named after Their. Excellencies, were also shown. Details of the manner in which it is proposed to carry out the work were exhibited by means of slides, and these included a view of the proposed power-house and factory. At the conclusion of the screening, Mr. Leigh Hunt spoke on aspects of the scheme.
