SAVINGS BANK METHODS

' (To the Editor.) Sir, —May I ask why the Post Office Savings Bank should adopt a different method of banking to that of the ordinary banking institutions ? We cannot work a swindle with the banks on cheques to be cleared, and the Judge was correct in his remarks that the Post Office Savings Bank was to blame —any business man knows that. There should be no scope for the human element, and I suggest the Savings Bank should not accept cheques, but make their clients pay in in cash, thus leaving cheques to be dealt with by the ordinary banking institutions, obviating any chance of fraud. The PostmasterGeneral cannot get away from the fact that the Savings Bank was to blame.— I am, etc., SAFETY. Wellington, February 10
