THE WELLINGTON PRESBYTERY
A meeting of the Wellington Presbytery was held last night, the Rev. James McCaw presiding in the absence of the moderator. Messrs. 11. A. Morris (Petone), O. Dempsey (Lower Hutt), and G- L- Stewart (Wiidestown) handed in their commissions for representation on the presbytery, and they were sustained. A call from Levin for the Rev. Robert Crockett, of Auckland, was sustained. The Rev. D. Shaw, who acted as moderator at Levin, explained that the stipend was X. 300 a year, and that the call was signed by. 76 members and 53 adherents. Mr. Crockett had come from Canada to Mt. Albert, Auckland, five years ago, and had returned to Canada a year ago, but his stay was only temporary as the climate did not agree with his wife’s health, and he had acted as supply in the Auckland district. There was a very hearty feeling in his favour since he had preached at Levin, and he was willing to accept the call. The Rev. Calder and Mr. Greig corroborated what had been said. The induction was fixed for Wednesday, February 3, at 3 p.m., the Rev. D. Shaw to preside and induct, the Rev. J. C. Loan to preach, and the Rev. James McCaw to address the people. Some consideration was given to the call to the Rev. Laurence Thomson to Island Bay, no reply having been received from the Wairarapa Presbytery on the matter. 3’lic Revs. Inglis. Shircr, and James McCaw were appointed a committee to go into the matter and re* port to next presbytery meeting
