ESCAPEE RECAPTURED

By Telegraph.—Press Association.

Auckland, January 19.

Pene Karakiakore, who escaped from the Mount Eden prison yesterday, was recaptured to-day. He was seen entering a house in the Grey Lynn district. The police surrounded the whole block, and when he dashed out a pack of police and civilians followed him. He was retaken in an open paddock, and offered no resistance. He escaped while working in a garden near the superintendent’s house, outside the walls, but close to the main entrance of the prison.
