YOUNG COUPLE IN COURT t Only four months married, a young woman of nineteen years appeared before Mr. C. R. Orr-Walker, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday and asked for a maintenance order against her husband.

Complainant, in evidence, said that she was employed as a waitress in the city, and was earning 38s. a week. She underwent an operation a short time ago, and was not in a fit condition to work. She was quite prepared to return to her husband. “I still think a lot of him,” she added. Counsel for defendant; You say you are not in a fit condition to work? Witness: Yes. 4am disobeying doctor’s orders now. How many times were you at the cabaret last week ?—“Twice.” And the week before ?—“Once.” The Magistrate: If you go to cabarets two or three times a week you can’t be as ill as you say you are.

Defendant, in evidence, said that he was married on his twenty-first birthday. They agreed to live apart, and he denied that his wife had ever made a suggestion that he should live with her. “She spends six nights in the week nt dances and cabarets,” he remarked.

After the hearing of further evidence the Magistrate made an order of 15s. n week.
