EASTERN EXTENSION CABLE

♦ LAYING OF/ DUPLICATE LINE. London, January 16. The Colonia, the largest cable ship in the world, sailed from Greenwich to lav the Eastern Extension Telegraph Companv duplicate cable over 1800 nautical miles between the Cocos Islands and Fremantle. The cable is of the new loaded type, the first British-owned and manufactured loaded cable to be put down. 'Hie cable is designed for a speed of 2100 'citers a minute, compared with 115 on the present line. . The question of further developing the lines between Fremantle and Adelaide is now being considered. The Colonia is expected to arrive at Cocos in the middle of February, and complete the laying of the cable to Fremantle early in March.—Reuter.
