WHIP BEHIND

CARRIERS DESIRE POLICE ACTION The well-established practice of stealing rides bv jumping on to lorries has at last induced tlie Wellington General Carriers’ and Customhouse Agents’ Union of Employers to take action to prevent it. '

At a general meeting ot tne association last week it was decided to communicate with the Commissioner of Police regarding the common practice of many people in jumping nnd hanging on to moving vehicles. “Such practice,” stated the letter, "is a dangerous one from the points of view of both the driver and the person jumping or hanging on to the vehicle." The association solicited the assistance of the Police Department in preventing and discouraging such action, and considered that steps should be taken to. introduce legislation to constitute it a legal offence.
