EASTBOURNE AFFAIRS

MEETING OF COUNCIL. . The monthly meeting of the Eastbourne Borough Council was held fast night. The Mayor (Mr. 11. M. Jones) presided, and liiere were also present Councillors Laing, Holmes, Levi, Jenkinson. and Andrews.

The town elciT (Mr. J. I'. Menzies) reported that owing to the weather conditions during the holidays the ferry returns were not as satisfactory as was hoped for. Tho following statement shows the receipts from December 24 to January 4. The 1921-25 figures arc given in parentheses:—December 24, 470 15s. 6d. (.£B5 14s. Ild.); 25th, £37 las. fid. According "to the receipts amt expenditure account of the ferry service. 425,070 os. 2d. was received from April 1 to D cent'or 31. 1925 as eompar-d with 415.287 2s. 7<l. for the corresponding period of the preceding year, while the expenditure was 420.839 2s. 7d., compared with 4'21,906 16s. 3d. Figur-S .for December (1924 figures .in parentheses) were, receipts 43012 Is. 2d. (42254 2s. 3d.); expenditure, 42470 15s. Id. (42281 15s. 9d.). During Dec-mbor 76.755 passengers were, carried, as against 85.905 for the December, 1921. The reo-ip's from-Hie tennis courts show a falling-off compared with last year. ( 33’edncsday, as formerly, was decided upon as the statutory half-holiday. .
