RINK CHAMPIONSHIPS SOME INTERESTING PLAY By TELEGRArn.— Press Association, Dunedin, January 14. Beautiful weather prevailed for the continuation of the rinks championship at the bowling tournament iQ-day. bright sunshine being tempered by a light breeze. The greens were exceedingly keen and many players found difficulty in negotiating them successfully. Some interesting games were witnessed. Minto (British party) held his own with Orchard (Christchurch) for more than half the game, but after the six-,. teenAh head the Christchurch men drew awav and won comfortably. • In his game against Stevenson (Hokitika) Minto led for the first eight heads, but after that Stevenson did practically all the scoring and won by 27 to’l6 on the twenty-fourth head. The hitherto unbeaten Edwards (Temuka) met his match in the fourth round, when he went down to McCurdy (St. Hilda). Pastier (St. Clair) and Benefield (St. John’s) provided an even contest to the fifteenth head, when the score was 14 all. The St. Clair men then drew away, winning by 26 to 19. The British party rink skipped bv Wright had a sweeping victory over Prisk (Opawa) and in the fourth round scored a win over Kaituna. The latter game was entirely in favour of the visitors. Some splendid drawing by Wade (British Party) was a feature of this game. Fleming’s British Party rink had a hard tussle with Foster (Caledonian), but suffered defeat by 21 to 16. Walker (Auckland) secured his third successive win by defeating Munro (Island Bay) fairly easily, but in the fourth round had his colours lowered by Malcolm (Balmaccwen). Crawford (British Party) lost to Efford (Edgeware) after a hard fouglit contest. Pilkington (Hamilton) and King (Hastings) fought a hard battle, characterised by accurate drawing on both sides, the game concluding in a win for the Hamilton rink by 26 to 24, Brcmner (West End, Auckland) had. a comfortable win against Hain (North End, Invercargill), leading by 16 points to 9, with ten heads played, and with 24 heads played the Aucklanders still had a lead of ten points.
