At 1 o’clock the other day. during the heaviest rush of traffic, two taxi-driv-ers made a neck-and-neck race over a Christchurch intersection (states the “Lvttelton Tinies”). As they, flashed over the corner the inside taxi knocked down a cvclist. It pulled up, but the other driver shot ahead at a fast pace. The cyclist was considerably shaken and covered with dust, though otherwise uninjured. Several bystanders expressed indignation at the incident. “A man who won’t work for himself should be made to work for the Government and so compelled to earn something to defray the expense he is to the country,” declared Mr. W. E. Gascoigne, J.P.. in the Police Court, in sentencing a prisoner to a term in gaol, (states Hie “Marlborough Express”).
